YOSHIO “JOE” SUMIYA

Joe Sumiya attended the Law School at the University of Alberta and was called to the bar in 2001.   He has considerable experience with family law handling cases involving divorces, child support, spousal support, parenting and access, guardianship and restraining orders.   He has  also served as the volunteer family court duty counsel in Red Deer for four years.   He also has experience with wills, civil litigation and criminal defence.    He taught legal education classes to the public primarily in the areas of family law, wills, and representing yourself in court.  

He served as an executive with the Central Alberta Bar Society, acting as the Speaker Chair.

He has participated regularly in the Terry Fox Run and the CIBC Run for a Cure.    He enjoys travel, martial arts study, and outdoor activities.
