With over ten years of experience practicing exclusively in family law, David is skilled counsel in all areas of family law. David is dedicated to assisting his clients’ reach lasting resolutions and moving forward with their lives from difficult situations. He believes in utilizing negotiation, mediation, as well as the Courts to achieve their goals, while always being mindful of cost effectiveness. David prides himself on being able to respectfully manage what can sometimes be difficult and emotional matters. Clients find David to be honest and professional in his demeanor, with a logical and analytical approach from his engineering background.

David was born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. He graduated magna cum laude with a Baccalaureate in Applied Science in Electrical Engineering from the University of Ottawa in 2007. David moved to Calgary to attend law school at the University of Calgary in 2007, and earned his Juris Doctor (J.D.) in 2010. David was called to the Alberta Bar in August of 2011.

David has experience in a wide variety of areas within the family law field. David has successfully negotiated and advocated for parenting and custody in both high conflict and amicable situations. He has dealt with a wide variety of child and spousal support (alimony) issues including high income earners, and individuals with complex corporate interests. David has successfully negotiated countless divorce and common law relationship property settlements amicably, both with and without the assistance of Mediators and Arbitrators. He has also vigorously fought for client’s property rights through the Courts and at Trial, when necessary. David has experience dealing with domestic violence incidents or allegations, including Emergency Protection Orders (EPOs), Restraining Orders, and involvement with Child and Family Services (CFS). David has prepared numerous Pre-Nuptial and Cohabitation Agreements for clients, both protect client’s assets and family wealth, or ensure a fair division in case the worse should happen. David has experience dealing with Family Trusts, International and Jurisdictional issues and other complexities that can arise in every client’s unique situation.

No one client’s situation is identical and David believes in customized solutions for each individual. David believes in getting the right person for the right job, and works closely with psychologists, financial professionals, accountants, lawyers with other specialization and any other professionals needed to optimize the outcome of a matter. Regardless of the issue that arises, David can help.

David has experience in all levels of Court in Alberta, being Provincial Court Family Division, the Court of King’s Bench and the Court of Appeal. David has run Trials at both the Provincial Court and the Court of King’s Bench, and has run over half a dozen appeals at the Court of Appeal.

When not assisting clients, David enjoys living life to the fullest. David is regularly trying new activities and sports as well as traveling the world. David is also passionate about helping out those in his community. David is a very active volunteer with Calgary Legal Guidance (CLG) and has been recognized for his dedication. David was the recipient of the 2017 Alan D. Hunter volunteer of the year award.  David also remains involved with helping law students at the University of Calgary.
